Vice President Kamala Harris’ race took center stage in a combative back-and-forth exchange with former President Donald Trump during a panel discussion Wednesday at a gathering of Black journalists in Chicago. “I did not know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now wants to be known as Black,” Trump said.
“I really don’t know,” Trump said. “Could be.” “It is completely insulting and repulsive,” one Harris world source told NBC News in reaction to the former president’s remarks. Another source close to Harris said Trump’s comments were “painful.” “It’s simply a lie and easily disproved,” this person added. “She went to Howard for Christ sake! She’s an AKA.
