Trudeau urges vaccinations amid a rise in kids’ illnesses clogging hospital ERs
The prime minster says he is “extremely worried” about a rise in respiratory illnesses among children as hospitals across the country report they are struggling to keep up with high volumes of patients.
Children’s hospitals have seen a surge in patients, including those affected by COVID-19, flu and respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV, for which there is no vaccine. “It means that kids who are dying are not getting the palliative and comfort care that they deserve and need, and that acute care is taking priority over that,” Mithani says.
“It’s funding for things like increasing vaccinations, increasing staffing in pediatric centres just to off-load the emergency departments.”
