Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is planning a Friday cabinet shuffle after an explosive week in federal politics that saw him lose his top deputy, and conduct a mini-shuffle on the fly Monday. One senior Liberal source told The Hill Times to expect the shuffle to involve about 12 Liberals moving in and out of positions.

The source, who spoke on a not-for-attribution basis because they were not authorized to speak, said three of the current ministers expected to take on new roles include: Labour Minister Steven MacKinnon (Gatineau, Que.), Treasury Board President Anita Anand (Oakville, Ont.), and Immigration Minister Marc Miller. Liberal MP Charles Sousa, first elected in a December 2022 Mississauga—Lakeshore, Ont., by-election, is expected to take over the Treasury Board Secretariat from Anand, according to a second source. Three-term Liberal MP Nathaniel Erskine-Smith (Beaches—East York, Ont.) is expected to take over as housing minister, the source said.
