NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh's demands for expanding cheques to non-working seniors and those with disabilities have left Justin Trudeau's full relief package hanging. Legislation, Bill C-78, focuses on a temporary GST/HST holiday, leaving other benefits uncertain.
The promised holiday consumer relief package by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been reduced to only a GST/HST holiday as the NDP demands additional measures. The legislation, Bill C-78 , was tabled by Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland , focusing on the temporary tax holiday for essential goods and common stocking stuffers between December 14, 2024, and February 15, 2025.
The original plan, which included a one-time $250 benefit for workers, is now uncertain due to legislative requirements
