NEW: Trudeau Foundation CEO and board resign, citing furor over Chinese interference allegations
OTTAWA—The CEO and board of directors of the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation are resigning because of the recent “politicization” of the charity amid a furor over alleged Chinese interference in Canadian democracy, according to a statement released Tuesday.
The statement said three of the six board members will keep working on an “interim basis” to the foundation can continue functioning, while president and CEO Pascale Fournier has stepped down after five years in the job. In a statement on March 1, Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre cast doubt on Morris Rosenberg, a long-serving bureaucrat under Tory and Liberal governments who penned a report on interference campaigns in the 2021 federal election, because he was head of the Trudeau Foundation when it received the $200,000 in 2016.
