Five masked suspects attempted to rob a jewelry store in a Scarborough plaza by crashing a stolen truck into it. While no items were stolen, the incident damaged a gas line, prompting a temporary evacuation. One store owner sustained minor injuries.
Toronto police are investigating a brazen robbery in Scarborough Wednesday evening where suspects drove a stolen truck into a jewelry store. Police were called just before 6:30 p.m. about a robbery in the area of Eglinton Avenue and Brimley Road. According to Duty Insp. Saleem Husain, the suspects backed the truck into the store in an attempt to steal from it, but nothing was taken. The impact of the truck also caused a gas line to be damaged, leading to a temporary evacuation of the plaza.
One of the jewelry store's owners sustained minor injuries during the attempted robbery, but no one was hurt due to the gas leak. Husain said police are currently searching for five masked suspects involved in the crime. Investigators are urging anyone with dashcam footage, cellphone video, or any other video of the area around the time of the robbery to reach out to them
