SUSSEX, N.B. — There are some finishing touches still left on the pedestrian bridge over Trout Creek, but the long-awaited link between Princess Louise Park and Sussex's downtown is now open for foot traffic.

Sussex Mayor Marc Thorne said last week that it was"exciting," saying that it can bring visitors to downtown as they flock in the thousands to the Atlantic Balloon Fiesta or the NB Antique Auto Club's Sussex Flea Market. The bridge currently has an open steel trestle design, as a final stage that would include a covered bridge-style roof was delayed due to added costs, with CAO Scott Hatcher telling council in November that it would have added an extra $4 million to the design.

Hatcher said Tuesday last week that there's still work to be done, including gravel that needs to be added and restoring pathways that were damaged by flooding in February. The bridge could be seen with gravel ramps leading up to the span with a slight lip to step up onto the span.
