The shine quickly wears off a new vehicle when repair and maintenance bills start rolling in. Whether you frequent dealerships or independent shops, some of these costs shock even the most knowledgeable and loyal owners. Are costs really going up, or is it just in our imagination?

So, you may have to do two fewer oil changes per year with synthetic oil, but that doesn’t break even on a dollars-spent basis. And when you consider synthetics don’t really offer any more protection against foreign deposits — raw fuel, metals, water, etc. — using this high-tech lubricant shouldn’t give cause for longer intervals.
