is an absolute doll when she gets onstage, with her tongue-in-cheek commentary in between her delightful rock-infused and folk-tinged ballads. But her audience really fit the bill when she performed in front of a full house of her Barbie doll collection for her "One Night Only" concert that premiered via YouTube on Monday night.
Live from the Liv Ingroom Theatre in Los Angeles, the drag superstar put on a musical special described as "equal parts late-night Adult Swim short, NPR Tiny Desk performance, and a stand-up comedy special," according to the press release. She's greeted with roaring applause before introducing the no-shoe rule and milk house drink special.
"You know, I play all over. And every time I play this room, something about it, it just really feels like home. Could be the pillows," Mattel teases about the venue. She's sharpening her material -- not only her witty interludes but the new songs from her forthcoming album due Feb. 7 via PEG Records -- before embarking on her 29-date Grown Up Tour across the nation next month.
