His mother, Joan Northcutt, described him as a man who loved to talk.
She says her daughter-in-law told her that Butts knew something bad was happening when they drove to the scene. At approximately 7:40 p.m., police were called to the 6400 block of Akron Street in Philadelphia's Oxford Circle section for reports of a shooting.Police say there were two additional victims located at a nearby gas station at Cottman and Glendale streets.
"The police took Lamont out of their car and put him in the police car and took him to the hospital," his mother recalled.Butts' wife and the first victim found by police survived.
