The trial of four men accused of involvement in the shooting down of Malaysian Airlines' MH17 over Ukraine in 2014 opens in a Dutch court today, the first attempt to prosecute suspects over the disaster.

, all commanders in the rebel forces, Igor Girkin, Sergey Dubinsky, Oleg Putlatov and Leonid Kharchenko. They are charged with the murder of the 298 victims and of causing the plane's crash.

Prosecutors on Monday said they did not believe that the four defendants had"pressed the button" that launched the missile that downed MH17.
