A London man charged with four counts of murder in the hit\u002Dand\u002Drun deaths of the London Afzaal family will have a change of venue for his trial
Superior Court Justice Renee Pomerance ruled Monday there will be a change of venue in the trial of Nathaniel Veltman, 21, set to begin Sept. 5, 2023.While trials are usually held in the jurisdiction in which an alleged crime is committed, courts can rule a change of venue is necessary to give an accused a fair trial.
Witnesses said the truck hit the family then sped south on Hyde Park Road. A suspect was arrested minutes after the crash in the parking lot of Cherryhill Village Mall, a block from the London Muslim Mosque. Court documents released in March suggest Veltman was involved in the Internet’s “dark web” before the family was killed.Article content
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and other political and faith leaders condemned the deaths, and Trudeau attended both a memorial service for the family after their deaths and commemoration services a year later.Article content
