Since then, politics has steadily become a potty-mouthed street-fight between rival gangs. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, Canada ’s Trash King, was kicked out of the Commons for saying that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was “wacko.” He also characterized the entire Liberal government as a “clown show.
But will Canadians get the chance to cast an informed vote, or merely support the party that most successfully denigrates its rival? If Poilievre runs true to form, he will stick to the name-calling and fear-mongering that have become his signature in public life. That process has already started. The CPC is fully aware that Chrystia Freeland will not be their opponent when Canadians go to the polls. For one thing, she doesn’t represent change.
