LOUISBOURG, N.S. — An Eskasoni fisherman says roughly 70 of his traps off Louisbourg had been vandalized when he hauled them up Saturday.
He said fishermen know how much time he spends maintaining his traps and lines and paying his boat number on his buoys. Chuck Francis of Eskasoni says about 70 of his traps were sabotaged as he tried to fish out of Louisbourg this season. CONTRIBUTED - Contributed“It’s a couple thousand a day we're missing out,” said Francis, who has three crewmen also relying on the income.
“I am scared to take my son out. I don’t know if this is going to escalate. I don’t want harm to come to my son.”“They don’t like natives. They don’t want us to prosper,” Francis said he told his son.Francis’ crewman Louis Paul, also of Eskasoni, said this is his first season fishing.
