TransLink set new ridership highs in 2018

Metro Vancouver’s transit authority says system-wide boardings increased by 7.1 per cent last year — TransLink’s largest ever annual jump — for a total of 435.9 million riders.

Ridership aboard buses was up 8 per cent, SeaBus saw a 6 per cent rise, SkyTrain ridership climbed 5.7 per cent, West Coast Express commuter train service was up 7 per cent and boardings for HandyDART, a shared ride service for passengers with physical or cognitive disabilities, were up 5.8 per cent.

The busiest bus route in the TransLink system was 99 B Line bus to UBC, which moved more than 17.4 million passengers in 2018. Waterfront Station was Metro Vancouver’s busiest SkyTrain station with more than 12.6 million boardings in 2018, followed by Metrotown at 8.2 million and Commercial-Broadway at 8.14 million.

In 2017, TransLink ridership increased by 5.7 per cent over the previous year, with a total of 406.8 million boardings. In 2016, ridership was up 4.5 per cent from 2015 .
