Transgender girls will be allowed to participate in girls’ sports in West Virginia as a result of a U.S. Supreme Court decision Thursday.
WASHINGTON –
The West Virginia case involved a 12-year-old middle schooler who has lived as a girl since the fourth grade. She has participated in track and field for three seasons. “That means she will not experience any of the physiological characteristics of puberty experienced by typical boys and will instead develop “physiological characteristics consistent with hormonal puberty of typical girls,” the briefs said.
Federal District Court Judge Joseph R. Goodwin, after initially blocking the law, allowed it to go into effect after full briefing in the case.
