'Transformation' planned for downtown Calgary's Olympic Plaza yyc yyccc

It’s too early to know what the plaza’s redesign will look like — CMLC president and CEO Kate Thompson couldn’t speak specifically to how the revitalized space would honour its Olympic roots. She said CMLC and the chosen design team would consider the plaza’s history alongside recent public engagements while planning the redevelopment.

“Being able to leverage the Olympic Plaza just like we do the city facilities that are Arts Commons, gives us the possibility of reaching more Calgarians regardless of climate, regardless of age, regardless of income, and being able to say, ‘This part of Calgary belongs to you,'” saidWhile the plaza can be a busy place, hosting events year-round, Sarian said that programming often happens “in spite of the condition the plaza is in, as opposed to because of them.
