Covid inspires record numbers to sign up to study nursing
The work of NHS nurses during the Covid-19 pandemic has inspired record numbers of students to apply to join the profession, a report has found.
Ms Marchant said applicants' willingness to move across the country to take a role would help address staff shortages, but that they would like to see more men applying, with women more than nine times more likely to choose nursing courses. The trend can be seen at the University of Gloucestershire, which has a seen a surge in applications, with the number of nursing applications almost doubling from 61 to 120 in the last four years.
Meanwhile in Somerset, a new link-up between Bridgwater and Taunton College and Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton is also looking to inspire more young nurses.
