Janusz Grelecki learned that the house, long deemed unsafe and unsightly by neighbours and city officials, was finally slated for demolition through an eviction notice.

WATCH: After a number of years, the City of Kelowna is finally starting demolition work on Janusz Grelecki 's Gibson road home. The home had become notorious over the last several years for its state of disrepair prompting city council to vote to take action on it in 2021. Travis Lowe has more.“It’s devastating, what they do,” the 73-year-old said Monday as he scrambled to remove his property from the home while people hired to take it down were out of view.

“It is tragic. I feel like killing myself because they take everything now,” he said. “I lost thousands, easily $100,000 inside.” A file was officially opened in 2010 for having “unsightly premises” after Grelecki failed to respond to multiple letters.By 2022, after the demolition order was made, there were 17 files for the unsightly premises “all with extended resources actioning these files over that period.”
