The Eurotunnel is still warning those heading towards the terminal at Folkestone that it may take"longer than normal" to reach the trains.
The Port of Dover has told passengers to"check with your chosen ferry operators for updates if you are intending to travel" on Sunday. It says the backlog of tourist traffic from Friday has been"cleared", along with"successfully getting Saturday's holidaymakers off on their way". Doug Bannister, CEO of the Port of Dover, says:"I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has turned this situation around, from the French and UK authorities to our ferry operators, Kent partners and our own port staff.
Highways England is warning of"severe delays", while drivers are reporting average speeds of just 5mph in some places.Lord Ricketts, a former ambassador to France, has this morning warned that long delays at the Port of Dover"will be the new normal" after Brexit. "The underlying reality is that no matter how many they have, given the size of the port, given the fact that the government failed to invest in expanding the facilities, it is going to be like this – this will be the new normal."Jack Cousens, Head of Roads Policy at the AA, said congestion around Kent is now shifting to the Eurotunnel at Folkestone - but the situation is"improving".
