It was the day MacEwen, the rugged Ottawa Senators winger, lost his hero, his dad Craig. A clot that started in Craig’s heart went to his brain. There was surgery, complications and a brain bleed.to play for the Senators in July.
“I knew if I had a good game or bad game from what he would say,” MacEwen said. “He was my main guy, the guy I looked to for guidance. He was always there for me. It was really tough when he died. I tried to keep it together for my mom.” With the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, he had 29 goals and 23 assists in 46 games in 2014-15. He was called up to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Moncton Wildcats and had a goal in nine games.to the Gatineau Olympiques and had 39 goals and 43 assists .
“I’ve dealt with adversity on the ice, trying to make teams and stay in the league, bouncing around a little bit,” MacEwen said. “You keep the mentality that the way you work is going to make you valuable and it’s going to get you a spot on the team.
