Get ready for delays! Track work, station upgrades, and road construction are causing major disruptions to Toronto's transit system and roadways this weekend and beyond. The TTC is advising riders to expect service interruptions on Line 1 and utilize alternate transportation options. Several major roads are also affected by closures and lane reductions, impacting commutes across the city.
Torontonians planning trips this weekend and throughout the coming weeks should be aware of potential disruptions to their commutes due to ongoing subway service interruptions and road closures across the city. Throughout the weekend, the TTC will be implementing track work, elevator installation at Museum Station, and upgrades at Queen's Park and St. Patrick stations, resulting in a suspension of subway service between St George and St Andrew stations.
Notably, due to construction along the route, shuttle services will not be available. The TTC advises riders to utilize any eastbound streetcar from Queen's Park, St Patrick, Osgoode, or St Andrew stations to connect with the Yonge subway line. While all stations except Queen's Park, Museum, and St Patrick stations will remain open, riders are encouraged to plan alternative transportation routes. From February 10th to 14th, nightly shuttle buses will replace subway service between Bloor-Yonge and Osgoode stations starting at 11 pm, resuming regular service at 6 am each morning. Two additional Wheel-Trans buses will operate between these stations to assist those requiring accessibility services. Currently, 11 reduced speed zones are in effect across lines 1 and 2, potentially impacting travel times as trains slow down for maintenance and upgrades. These zones are located at St. Clair and Davisville (both directions), Dupont and St. Clair West (northbound), and Wilson and Sheppard West (both directions).Several road closures are also anticipated, impacting various routes throughout the city. The eastbound Gardiner Expressway will be reduced to one lane between Dufferin Street and Strachan Avenue from 11 pm to 5 am nightly from Sunday to Thursday for the installation of new girders. The westbound Gardiner Expressway off-ramp to Lake Shore Boulevard will be closed from 11 pm on Thursday until 5 am on Friday for street light pole inspections. Lake Shore Boulevard West will experience reduced lanes in the westbound direction. Between Fort York Boulevard and New Brunswick Way, it will be narrowed to one lane until February 16th for Toronto Hydro's underground electrical cable upgrades for Ontario Place. This will further restrict to two lanes westbound from 7 am to 7 pm and one lane from 7 pm to 7 am from February 17th to April 1st. Yonge Street will be reduced to one northbound lane at York Mills Road from 7 am to noon on Saturday to accommodate a crane's safe operation. Finally, the intersection of Lake Shore Boulevard West and Bathurst Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction from February 17th until mid-March for TTC streetcar track renewal and water main replacement projects. The work will be carried out in phases, starting on the north side of Bathurst Street and progressing southward
