A garbage truck striking overhead power lines at King Street and Spadina Avenue in Toronto has caused major disruptions to five downtown streetcar routes. The intersection is closed, and service is not expected to return to normal until the evening rush hour.

Five busy downtown Toronto streetcar routes are being diverted after a garbage truck struck live power lines Tuesday morning. The intersection of King Street and Spadina Avenue has been closed since 8:15 a.m. after the truck made contact with the overhead wires, which provide power to the TTC ’s streetcar network. No injuries were reported, but police said live wires did fall to the ground after they became entangled with the vehicle.

At least five streetcar routes have been impacted by the closure, including 501 Queen, 504 King, 508 Lake Shore, 510 Spadina, and 511 Bathurst, the TTC said, adding that shuttle buses will be available “where possible.” The TTC said the process of reopening the intersection is expected to be “lengthy.
