Canada's main stock index rebounded in late early morning trading with shares of Shopify Inc. surging to a record high after the e-commerce company reported strong quarterly results.
The S&P/TSX composite index was up 91.20 points at 16,212.52. Shopify was below the day's high but still up 12 per cent at about $1,467.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average was up 78.19 points at 26,457.47. The S&P 500 index was up 25.34 points at 3,243.78, while the Nasdaq composite was up 115.39 points at 10,517.29.The September crude contract was up 33 cents at US$41.37 per barrel and the September natural gas contract was up one cent at US$1.87 per mmBTU.
The August gold contract was up US$1.30 at US$1,945.90 an ounce and the September copper contract was down 0.45 of a cent at US$2.91 a pound.
