Staff Superintendent Peter Moreira, from the Toronto Police Service, will take on the top job in Durham Region starting March 24.

“Chief Designate Moreira is an exemplary police leader, and his experience and skillset reflect precisely the competencies the board prioritized in its next Chief of Police,” said Ajax Mayor Shaun Collier, board chair.

Throughout his career, Chief Designate Moreira has held various leadership roles and has been the Unit Commander of several critical units, including the Homicide Squad, Integrated Gun & Gang Task Force, and 51 Division. He also contributed to the “Action Plan: The Way Forward” report as a member of the Toronto Police Service Transformational Task Force.
