A Toronto police officer has been charged in connection with a collision in Whitby in June that left an 18-year-old man seriously injured. The Special Investigations Unit ( SIU ), an independent agency that investigates incidents involving police where there are allegations of death, serious injury, sexual assault, or discharge of a firearm, was called in to probe the incident.
According to the SIU, Toronto police officers were searching for a man on the day of the collision and located him in a parking lot riding a scooter. An officer driving an unmarked Toronto Police Service vehicle collided with the scooter, causing serious injuries to the rider, an 18-year-old man. The injured individual was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Following a thorough investigation conducted by the SIU, Detective Constable Baksh has been charged with dangerous driving and assault with a weapon. Baksh is scheduled to appear in an Oshawa court in March to face these charges. The SIU has stated that it will not be releasing further details regarding the investigation as the matter is now before the courts.
