Toronto police have identified 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre as the second man found dead inside a burning vehicle, one of two fatal car fires in Scarborough and Etobicoke being investigated as homicides.
Toronto police have identified the second man whose body was found inside a burning vehicle earlier this week as 30-year-old Mohamud Kheyre. His death is Toronto's 28th homicide of 2026.
Toronto Car Fire Victims Identified
The body of Kheyre was located in a burned-out vehicle in Etobicoke on Sept. 22, according to police. The case involves two similar car fires, one in Scarborough and the other in Etobicoke, that investigators are treating as homicides. The first victim was previously identified as 32-year-old Marcus Charles of Scarborough. Police have not released any suspect information in either case.

Police were called to the first fire just north of the Toronto Zoo, near Steeles Avenue East and Reesor Road in Scarborough. Investigators say they attended the area just before 11:30 p.m. on Sept. 21. Emergency responders located a deceased victim inside a vehicle that was on fire, which was sitting in a field. The second fire happened in the area of Royal York Road and Edenbridge Drive in Etobicoke.
Police say they attended that scene just before 1 a.m. on Sept. 22 and found another deceased victim inside a burning vehicle, which was in a parking lot. In both cases, emergency responders located a deceased victim inside a vehicle that was on fire. Det. -Sgt.
Vehicles Stolen Across Greater Toronto Area
Henri Marsman of Toronto police's Homicide and Missing Persons Unit said Friday that Kheyre was found inside a vehicle that had been stolen from somewhere in the Greater Toronto Area. The first victim, Charles, was identified through fingerprints and was located inside a rental vehicle, Marsman added. Marsman said investigators believe Charles was killed within a 24-hour period prior to the fire. He previously said autopsies confirmed that both men sustained fatal gunshot wounds prior to the fires.
Charles, a Scarborough resident, was identified through fingerprints, police said. Police say it is still too early to determine if these two fatal vehicle fires are connected. It is, however, believed that both victims were targeted, but there is no ongoing threat to the public, they said. These are Toronto's 27th and 28th homicides of 2026.
Anyone with further information is asked to contact Toronto police's homicide squad at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously. With files from CP24's Codi Wilson.
