A state-of-the-art pool in downtown Toronto has been closed twice since its opening in November 2023, causing frustration among parents who enrolled their children in swimming lessons.
Some downtown Toronto parents are expressing frustration after a new, state-of-the-art pool at the One Yonge Street Community Recreation Centre was closed recently for the second time since mid-October. The pool, which opened in November 2023, has been plagued by technical issues, forcing its closure during children's swim classes in both October and November.
Parents, including Judee Yarmolinsky, who enrolled her five-year-old in learn-to-swim classes, expressed disappointment over the disruptions. The city initially offered refunds or credits for future swim programs to parents who couldn't make the switch to another community centre near St. Lawrence Market. However, Yarmolinsky claims that her promised refund for the cancelled classes has not yet been issued due to a registration information mix-up during the city's transition to a new online registration platform
