The sixth team in the National Women's Hockey League -- an expansion franchise in Toronto -- will be named the 'Six.'
Toronto’s nickname of the Six, which refers to its 416 area code, was popularized by hometown rap superstar Drake. The Six is also slated to join the NWHL for its sixth season, the 2020-21 campaign.
“We wanted a bold, clean and modern brand for the team, for the game and for the city,” said Tyler Tumminia, chairman of the Six, in a press release.Toronto’s new team was announced on April 22, and it is the first Canadian city to have a club in the American NWHL.
