Detroit Red Wings forward Lucas Raymond collided with Murray late in the first period on Sunday.
Murray allowed two goals on eight shots before leaving Monday’s game. The Maple Leafs currently trail the Red Wings by a 3–1 score midway through the second period at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.
The Maple Leafs acquired Murray from the Ottawa Senators last July. The Sens traded Murray and two draft picks to the Maple Leafs in exchange for future considerations; Murray is under contract with Toronto at a $4.5 million cap hit through the end of the 2023–24 season. Murray, 28, kicked off his NHL career with back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016 and 2017. He appeared in 32 playoff games during the two Cup runs, winning 22.
Although he remained effective in Pittsburgh in the two seasons immediately after the championship wins, Murray began to show signs of decline and decreased durability in 2019–20, leading the Penguins to trade him to Ottawa. Murray lasted only two injury-plagued seasons with the Senators before being traded again in 2022.
Entering Sunday’s action, Murray had appeared in 271 games over parts of eight seasons with Pittsburgh, Ottawa, and Toronto, posting a 146-86-24 record with 15 shutouts and a .911 save percentage.
