Toronto Maple Leafs analysts discuss Morgan Rielly and Darren Raddysh as a defensive pair while Jake McCabe avoids serious injury after a skate cut.
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake McCabe said he was very lucky to avoid a serious injury after suffering a skate cut during a game, according to comments he made to reporters. The incident occurred when McCabe noticed blood and quickly left the ice. Meanwhile, analysts Bryan Hayes, Jeff O'Neill and Jamie McLennan discussed potential defensive pairings for the Maple Leafs, including whether Morgan Rielly and Darren Raddysh should play together.
McCabe Escapes Serious Injury After Skate Cut
McCabe described the moment he realized he had been cut, stating that he saw blood and got off the ice quickly. He considered himself fortunate that the injury was not more severe. The veteran defenseman has been an important part of Toronto's blue line, and his availability is key for the team's defensive depth this season.
The scare highlights the dangers players face from skate blades during games. McCabe's quick reaction likely prevented a worse outcome, and he is expected to continue playing without a long absence.
Analysts Weigh Rielly and Raddysh Pairing
On the broadcast, Hayes, O'Neill and McLennan debated how the Maple Leafs should arrange their defense pairs. One proposal involved placing Morgan Rielly with Darren Raddysh, a combination that would pair an established puck mover with a younger option. The analysts suggested that McCabe might need to play alongside one of them, while Chris Tanev could partner with the other.
The discussion reflects ongoing questions about Toronto's defensive structure and how best to balance experience with emerging talent. Rielly remains a cornerstone of the Leafs' defense, while Raddysh has drawn attention for his development. Finding the right partner for each player is a central task for the coaching staff.
Alfredsson Adjusts to Life with the Maple Leafs
Daniel Alfredsson, a longtime Ottawa Senators captain, is getting used to his new role with the Maple Leafs. He admitted he thought he would be more incognito in Toronto but has found that fans recognize him. Alfredsson described his relationship with the organization as having kissed and made up, referencing his history as a rival player.
His presence adds a veteran perspective to the Leafs' operations. Alfredsson's transition from a divisional opponent to a member of Toronto's staff is one of the more intriguing storylines surrounding the team this season.

Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky said he pretends that it is his first game too, and he completely forgot about McKenna's rookie lap. Bobrovsky's comment added a lighthearted note to the occasion, which celebrated McKenna's rise and the support of his family.

His versatility allows him to play in multiple situations, making him a valuable asset for the team's forward group. Newhook's development is a positive sign for Montreal as it builds its roster.
In Detroit, Lions general manager Brad Holmes addressed the suspension of Hagerty, saying he made a huge mistake and has to own up to it. Holmes' comments made clear the organization expects accountability from its players. The suspension is a reminder of the standards the Lions set for their team.
