Toronto Hydro warning customers of scammers threatening disconnection and demanding payment

The fraudsters are contacting customers by phone, text, email, fake electricity bills and door-to-door visits, sometimes offering to install smart meters or provide rebates.

Toronto Hydro is warning customers about ongoing scams targeting residential and small business customers.

The scammers call from a 1-800 number or a 416 number and threaten to cut off power if payment isn’t promptly made. Toronto Hydro said that they will never ask for payment by prepaid card or by bitcoin and instruct customers to hang up.Request for electronic transfer
