Toronto City Council recently greenlit a range of new development projects, bringing much-needed housing and mixed-use spaces to various neighborhoods across the city. From affordable housing initiatives to high-rise residential and commercial buildings, these projects will shape the urban landscape of Toronto in the coming years.
A number of development proposals received zoning approvals at Wednesday's Toronto City Council meeting, moving them closer to reality. Six applications were greenlit by Council, spanning from Etobicoke to East York and encompassing a range of projects, from City-led affordable housing to a 40-storey purpose-built rental. Here's a breakdown of the approved projects:* An 18-storey mixed-use building with 175 rental units, including six affordable units, and 3,918 sq.
ft of non-residential space.* A seven-storey residential building with 24 three-bedroom units, ranging in size from 1,980 sq. ft to 3,046 sq. ft, serving a variety of families in the neighbourhood, along with 55 vehicle parking spaces and 36 bike parking spaces.* A 40-storey mixed-use affordable housing development on City-owned land, featuring 494 units with 148 affordable units in line with the City's HousingTO 2020-2030 Action Plan. This project also includes 1,076 sq. ft to 3,229 sq. ft of non-residential space, a park, 22 visitor vehicle spaces, and 496 bicycle parking spaces.* A 40-storey residential building, the second phase of 'Bela Square,' adding 535 units, including 35 rental replacement units, 141 vehicle parking spaces, and 603 bicycle parking spaces.* Three new mixed-use buildings with heights of nine, 10, and 12 storeys, joining an existing 13-storey building with 152 units. This infill development would add 484 new units, 3,530 sq. ft of non-residential space, a 17,125-sq. -ft park, and 438 vehicle parking spaces and 489 bicycle parking spaces.* Two mixed-use buildings containing four towers with heights of 34, 34, 31, and 31 storeys, delivering 1,409 rental units, including 141 affordable units. The development also includes 77,963 sq. ft of non-residential space, 947 vehicular parking spaces, and 1,580 bicycle parking spaces
