For its part, the Department of Municipal Affairs responded to SaltWire last week that it had yet to confirm an agenda for the spring sitting. “The client is currently private and we are not at liberty to disclose this information at the moment,” reads a written response from MainStreet Research on Monday.
The motions came after an extensive public consultation process that saw the warden and mayor host public meetings around the county, online forums, and a dedicated phone line for people to leave their opinions. Let Antigonish Decide has held public meetings, put up signs around the town and county and recently filed an action with the Nova Scotia Supreme Court request that the County’s motion to request special legislation be thrown out. The group claims members from both those in favour and against consolidation but who share the belief that the matter should go to a pleblicite.
