Following the surprise loss of the Liberal stronghold of Toronto-St. Paul’s, Ont., back in June, top Liberals are now cautiously managing expectations for the upcoming byelection in the similarly safe riding of LaSalle-Émard-Verdun, Que. In a recent presentation on election readiness at the Ontario Liberal caucus retreat, Tourism Minister Soraya Martinez Ferrada , co-chair of the national Liberal campaign, described the Sept.
The leadership did not allow a national caucus meeting, but Trudeau individually called all Liberal MPs to get their feedback. “In an environment where the Liberals have lost Toronto-St. Paul's, they're trailing the Conservatives between 15 and 20 points, a loss in LaSalle-Émard would amp up the calls for resignation, and would make the Liberals seem even more divided,” Nik Nanos, chief data scientist for Nanos Research told last month.
