OPP are marking Seniors Month by encouraging you to keep an eye out for some common scams targeting older Ontarians.
According to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre , fraud reports totalled $531-million in 2022. About 26 per cent of these funds were taken from seniors.The top schemes targeting seniors in 2022 included:Romance frauds: $19.5-million nationwide, $8.8-million in OntarioExtortion schemes: $7.7-million nationwide, $542,000 in OntarioTo learn more, you can check out the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre byIf you fall victim to a fraud or know someone who has, you can call the CAFC at 1-888-495-8501.
