VIDEO SIGN OUT's oblique injury could open the door for one of baseball's top prospects to open the season in the team's starting rotation.

Pitching coach Pete Walker says Nate Pearson, who has been working his way through the minor leagues since being taken by the Blue Jays 28th overall in the 2017 draft, is in a battle to break camp in the rotation."Nate doesn't have to do anything to impress us," Walker said."He's really in a great place right now. He's continuing to refine his stuff. He's got a power arm as we all know. His secondary stuff is really coming along nicely.

"There's a little bit of a rotation battle with a spot that Chase probably won't be ready for to take out of the chute." The Blue Jays announced Sunday that Anderson was day-to-day with an injury he suffered while warming up prior to a recent batting practice. Anderson played catch Monday, with Walker reporting no problems during that session.and Trent Thornton are considered the front-runners to be in the starting rotation when the 60-game season begins July 24 at Tampa Bay.
