From danbilicki: Top 5 things to know before Canada takes on Ireland at the Women’s World Cup.
While the Canadian women looked superior to Nigeria in the two countries’ opener, neither side could put the ball in the net for a 0-0 draw. This was in spite of Canadian captain Christine Sinclair earning a penalty early in the second, which was then saved by goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie. Before Canada takes on the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday morning, here are five things to know.
Fleming’s absence was apparent as her teammates could have used her ability to create with the ball and make the necessary passes into the box to create chances. She also takes set pieces for the team including corners – an area where Canada failed to create much of a threat on its seven attempts against Nigeria. Whether Fleming has recovered enough from her calf injury to start remains to be seen, but getting back on the field is a major step in the right direction. From our newsroom to your inbox at noon, the latest headlines, stories, opinion and photos from the Toronto Sun.By clicking on the sign up button you consent to receive the above newsletter from Postmedia Network Inc.
