You'll probably argue with us about No. 10 on this list.

He accepted a phone call from Ralph Moody on Christmas Eve 1960 that changed his life, when he agreed to drive for the Holman-Moody Racing team and authored one of the sport’s most impressive tenures from 1961-1967.He was complete racer, scoring wins on every discipline, posting 84 top-10s and 75 top-5s. He finished inside the top-10 for over half the races he won.

In the hopes of paying off the remaining debt and securing broadcast rights money for drivers, Turner sought aid from the Teamsters Union in 1961, and NASCAR founder Bill France summarily banned him from the sport. Due to an incredible amount of lobbying from fans and his fellow drivers, France lifted the ban in 1965 and Turner would win the inaugural Grand National race at Rockingham Speedway. Perhaps Turner wouldn’t have chased a championship over those four years, but he would have won one if he had tried.Ricky Rudd was literally always a championship threat but couldn’t break through the glass ceiling that was the NASCAR Cup Series.Rudd is second on the Cup Series all-time starts list with 906.

He was the 1987 rookie of the year. He won back-to-back All-Star Races in 1991 and 1992. He won the Daytona 500 in 1992. That alone was enough to warrant him entry in the NASCAR Hall of Fame. That happened again in 2011 when a 9.3 average season was dramatically thwarted on a tiebreaker in the finale with Tony Stewart. He moved to Joe Gibbs Racing in 2015 and was once again a championship threat.
