Staff at the Boardwalk Taproom and Eatery were removing items from the operation Wednesday after the facility closed its doors Tuesday. The decision stemmed largely from the after-effects of the pandemic and the increases in food costs. CAPE BRETON POST PHOTOSYDNEY, N.S. — The pandemic, rising food costs and recent flooding are being cited as reasons for the sudden closure of a downtown Sydney restaurant.officially closed its doors Tuesday at its location in the Civic Centre on the Esplanade.
The statement noted that despite business increasing in the last few months, the enterprise was still recording only 65 per cent of business levels compared to“With that reality, the continued financial investments, and the sacrifice of precious time from our family into a location we lease and do not own stopped making sense,” said the statement.
Ellis is expected to continue operating in the downtown core with Daniel's Alehouse and Eatery and Portside locations. Remaining gift cards will be honoured at Daniel's and Portside and Daniel's will try and accommodate any reservations previously made at the Taproom.
