She asks him if he would give it to her if she was crying about it.There are societal expectations and ideas that we’ve all subscribed to.
A very interesting nuance of the story is that the first person who does not believe Marie Adler is her foster mother, who happens to also be a sexual assault survivor. It's really fucking complicated. The way we internalize things and the way we've dealt with our trauma or not dealt with our trauma or not processed it can come out sideways. I think that's a very valuable part of this story.
