Police in the U.K. are now investigating whether the dog was an illegal breed to own.
A 17-month-old girl has been killed by a family's dog at a home in the U.K., according to the police.officers were alerted that a child was attacked by a dog at a property in Blackbrook, St. Helens, at about 3:50 p.m. on Monday.
A forensic examination of the dog will determine if the breed was a legal one to own under the country's Dangerous Dogs Act . In a Monday statement, Detective Inspector Lisa Milligan said:"This is a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the child's family at this devastating time. "Whilst we are in the very early stages of the investigation into this extremely tragic incident we can confirm that the dog was only bought by the family a week ago and officers are working to identify the previous owners of the dog concerned and establish its history.
