Robin Farquhar, OttawaRe: Review, Finding Your Feet is as cozy as a cup of tea, and about as surprising, April 11.
As a grandparent but not a “granny” and in my 80th year, I found his comments in this review insulting. What he will enjoy in his old age may be placid and predictable; I hope not. However, perhaps this review could be his self-fulfilling prophecy. As a twelfth grader, I think it’s time to reflect on how devoid of Canadian literature my English classes have been. Weread Canadian authors in Canadian English classes.
On the low-tech side, more student-run fundraising opportunities can be implemented. Free books and education grants could be applied for. Students might even find authors themselves to be a source of the desired literature; Margaret Atwood, for instance, is an Ottawa-born author, to whom students might write. Additionally, such activities will encourage students to own their education, and help them to learn about the practical applications of writing.
