But why is it broken? For decades, premiers have demanded more and more in federal funding for health and education while using both as footballs, holding back funds, underfunding and diverting funds to pet projects, or simply letting monies sit so they can, next election, point to the surplus they created. They are like privateers with the public dime, spending their share however they like.
The destroyers of health care will peddle the line that directing money towards private care providers makes sense because this is more efficient. They just never explain at what cost, though it’s clear to family members who lost an elderly loved one in a privately run long-term care home.Article contentFrank A. Pelaschuk, AlexandriaI am writing to complain about the recent removal of three bus stops at Carlingwood shopping mall.
Due to construction the stops close to the shopping centre main entrance and Loblaws were relocated to existing stops near Carling Avenue. You have to walk a fair distance through the parking lot to reach those stops, which do not have any seating or shelter from the sun or rain. This arrangement was obviously an afterthought. The mall and OC Transpo could have provided adequate signage, seating and/or bus shelters to accommodate the many people who take the bus to the mall, including a sizeable number of seniors and people with disabilities. The present stops are an indication of the car mentality that pervades Ottawa shopping malls and a lack of foresight on the part of OC Transpo.
