Today's letters: Rein in the Governor General's spending

Kudos to John Ivison and Bryan Passifume for their detailed revelations about the egregious expenditures of the current and former governors general for clothing, footwear, travel and travel accommodation.

The real problem, as pointed out by Ivison, is that the clothing allowance for a governor general is $130,000 over a five-year mandate . Such expenditures are encouraged within the public service administration to maintain its annual budgetary allocations, lest they be reduced for non-utilization.Article content

This fiduciary practice of departmental financial accountability has been going on for decades, and appears tone-deaf to the taxpayers. It is high-time for a major reform and restructuring of federal expenditures, and I daresay the same would be prudent for provincial and municipal levels too.Thanks for the detailed article by John Ivison, which should be required reading for every Canadian.
