Saturday, March 11: It\u0027s the annual undercarriage attack, readers note. And good luck getting compensation from the city for any damage.

With all the media reports since the pandemic, and ongoing issues surrounding the nurses, one would think that the current bargaining situation would deserve broader attention.

What on Earth is wrong with the hospital association and the Ford government? We’ve been hearing about huge bonuses and salary increases in other areas over the last few weeks. This is appalling. The nurses have been undermined far too long. Many have left the profession and many more are on their way out.

What is there to criticize? How can the operations of AOAO be characterized as either unfair or somehow a blow to our public health-care system? Those temporary facilities, although neither licensed nor inspected, are still serving patients because of excess LTC needs. The Ford government refers to these “homes” as Transitional Care Facilities . For emergency purposes in 2020, the province formed these commercially operated homes as a special class of Hospital, thus existing under “hospital” rules. No need for LTC licensing and inspection. They function outside of the regulatory authority for “official” LTC homes.
