Wednesday, Apr. 12: Reading the newspaper in the morning has been an exquisite enjoyment. You can write us at [email protected]

Unsung HeroismThank you Bruce Deachman for highlighting the life of our unsung heroes. Each time I open my front door to retrieve my paper, often in the worst of weather, I wonder about the life of my paper delivery person Mattwhat trials, misadventures and life-saving calls he might have made while getting the paper to my door.

Thanks to Deachman’s article on Elaine and Bob Bolduc, I have a better idea of what Matt goes through so I can start my day with my paper. Our power had failed during the afternoon of last Wednesday’s freezing rain storm. We heard the sounds of trees falling many times during the night and woke up looking at a driveway completely blocked by four or five downed trees — shades of the Great Ice Storm of ’98.

I know that that is not a 911 call, but in desperation I made the call anyway. At 78, I could never have cleared the way. They responded and within a few minutes firefighters were busy chain-sawing their way through the fallen trees. It took less than 15 minutes for them to clear the way out to enable me to run out for the urgently needed gas and meds.Leif Schonberg, OsgoodeWe would like to thank the person who delivered our newspaper the day of the storm. We lost power for 36 hours but we had our newspaper to keep us entertained. Thank you again for fighting the bad weather to make us happy.
