I live in a so-called “traffic calmed” neighbourhood that includes everything from speed bumps to street realignment to flexible centreline signage. It’s this latter that I take exception to.

Good journalism reports from all sides and allows the readers to make up their own minds, using their critical thinking skills. A critical reading of the article about the supporter of “The United People of Canada” reveals the thinness of the arguments for that support. It also gives readers an opportunity for compassion, as we read between the lines and consider why someone would be such a determined supporter of this group.

Fast-forward a few years. It turns out one of my kids is trans. I’ve watched him figure out his gender and become more comfortable with himself than he ever was before. I’ve also watched as he navigated school and work, having to explain himself over and over as people naturally enough misgender him when they first meet him, based on what he looks like.
