As a taxpayer who ultimately is paying the salaries of Ontario’s education employees, I just don’t understand how CUPE thinks that it is realistic to request what it started out with: an 11.7 per cent increase yearly for their people. Yes, they have had their wages effectively frozen, and yes, they are also facing hardship due to current inflation. But so have many others in Ontario.

If my vehicle is damaged and rendered unusable because I was distracted or failed to take some evasive action, I likely deserve some blame. But regardless of whoseThough I hope we never make casual use of the Act, woulda/coulda/shouldas were not going to be enough at the end of the day.During the convoy hearings, organizer Chris Barber testified that he was “surprised that the Ottawa Police allowed the Trucks to park in front of Parliament.” In my view, those few words say it all.

In case nobody noticed, in the recent City of Ottawa municipal election the leading candidates for mayor promised to cap city property tax hikes at 2.5 per cent and three per cent. Does anyone really think that the new city council will be willing to raise taxes by five or six per cent in order to accommodate the infrastructure that new development will require?Article content
