The name of Canada’s second Governor General was announced on this date in 1868. Sir John Young, Baron Lisgar, born in India, had served as a MP at Westminster, at Treasury and as Chief Secretary for Ireland.As a British colonial administrator, Young had been posted to the Ionian Islands and New South Wales before taking up his duties in Ottawa. Lord Lisgar served at Rideau between 1869 and 1872 and was cross-appointed to represent Britain on Prince Edward Island as well.
